A woman’s breast size and shape are important factors in her self-image, not to mention the image that she presents to the world as a whole. If you are planning on getting breast implants, one of the first things you will probably do is search the Internet for information about what size and shape of breast implant best suits your body type and desired look. There are several different factors to consider when choosing your breast implant size and shape, so the following tips will help you learn how to choose the right one for you.

Choosing the right breast implant size

When it comes to choosing the right breast implant size and shape for you, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, think about your desired look. Do you want a natural look or something more dramatic? Second, consider your body type. If you have a small frame, you may not want to go too big. Third, think about your lifestyle. If you are active and do a lot of physical activity, you may want to choose a smaller implant so it doesn’t get in the way. Fourth, talk to your doctor. They will be able to help you choose the right size and shape based on your individual needs. Fifth, don’t be afraid to ask for help. There are many resources available to help you make this decision. Talk to other women who have had implants, read blogs, speak with surgeons and read books. One thing that I always recommend is getting a second opinion before making any final decisions. It’s important that you feel confident in your decision because these surgeries can be quite expensive.

Choosing Between Round and Textured implants

When it comes to breast implants, there are two main types: round and textured. Round implants are the most popular type and tend to create a more natural look. Textured implants, on the other hand, are less likely to move around and can provide more support for saggy breasts.

Choosing the right shape for your breast implant

When it comes to choosing the right breast implant size and shape for you, there are a few things you need to take into consideration. First, you need to think about your body type and what will look best on you. Second, you must consider your lifestyle and your active lifestyle. Third, you need to think about your budget and what you can afford. Fourth, you need to think about your surgeon and their experience. Fifth, you need to think about the incision site and what will work best for you. Sixth, you need to think about your recovery time and how much downtime you are willing to have.

Understanding breast volume

One of the most important factors in choosing the right breast implant size and shape is understanding your own breast volume. This can be a tricky thing to measure, but there are a few simple steps you can take to get an accurate estimate.

First, you’ll need to determine your bra size. Second, use a soft tape measure to measure the fullest part of your bust. Finally, take these two measurements and subtract the second measurement from the first. This number will give you a good starting point for finding implants that match your own breast volume.

Once you know your breast volume, you can start looking at implant sizes and shapes. There are a variety of implant sizes available, so it’s important to find one that’s right for your body type and desired look. When considering what breast implant size would work best for you, remember to consider the following: height, weight, frame size (i.e., wide or narrow), nipple placement (i.e., low or high), chest width, skin elasticity, and muscle tone as well as existing breast tissue (if any).

Breast augmentation surgery with implants is often considered cosmetic surgery because it does not treat disease or deformity; however, studies have shown that patients who undergo this procedure report feeling more confident and positive about their appearance after surgery. Studies also show better self-esteem scores among post-surgery patients than those who do not undergo any procedures on their breasts.

Summer is the best time to get a breast augmentation. Now that the weather is warming up and the sun is shining brighter, it’s the perfect time to show off your new curves! If you are considering breast augmentation, now is the right time to do it.

What Are the Benefits of Breast Augmentation Before Summer?

Plastic surgery for breast augmentation can have a profound impact on a woman’s quality of life. The main benefit is that it can improve self-esteem and confidence. It can also help restore symmetry after pregnancy or weight loss. It can also be used to correct developmental asymmetry.

If you’re considering breast augmentation surgery, speak with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has performed the procedure before. Your doctor will be able to answer any questions you have and help you make the right decision for your body.

Why You Should Plan Your Beach Body Early

You will have to plan your transformation early because you will need time to heal.

If you want to be ready for swimsuit weather, spring is the best time to get breast implants. Healing from the surgery takes about six to eight weeks, and you’ll also need to adjust to your new body and buy a new swimsuit.

You should schedule your surgery at least two or three months before summer if you’re considering breast augmentation. When the warm weather arrives, you’ll feel your best.

In the last few decades, breast augmentation surgery, including implants and breast lift surgery, has advanced significantly. Tools, techniques, and procedures have improved significantly. One or two weeks are required for recovery after breast implant surgery, for example.

As compared to previous procedures that could take months to recover from, this is a significant improvement. In addition, your breasts will swell immediately after surgery due to the work done and the increased size and volume.

Initially, you may experience tenderness and tightness around the chest area; however, this is normal and will subside over time.

During this time of year, it’s vital to get as much rest as you can and give your body the chance to heal.

Your only option for surfing before summer should be channel surfing on your TV. You will need plenty of rest time before you can enjoy swimming, snorkeling, and surfing at the beach in summer.

Breast reconstruction is a surgical procedure that involves fixing the shape and appearance of a breast. Women who have deformed breasts due to genetics, accidents, or cancer often apply for this process.

The reconstruction process involves using prosthetic implants or the tissue that surgeons acquire from the individual’s body. You have the explicit option of choosing whether you want to reconstruct your nipple or not.

Many people prefer using the nipple scaring mastectomy approach. It involves reconstructing your nipple and still preserving the surrounding skin area.

What are Your Options?

There are two common options available for breast cancer surgery including:

Implant Reconstruction

Implant reconstruction involves the placement of a saline or silicone gel into the affected area of the breast. Patients who go for implants have excellent recovery rates, in other words, it’s also a much easier process than other alternatives. However, the implants are prone to various issues over time and might require replacement.

Autologous Reconstruction

Autologous reconstruction involves using tissue that comes from another section of your body. The autologous approach might be more challenging to implement but is less prone to issues over time. Medical experts also refer to this process as the flap reconstruction process. The surgeon will acquire tissue from parts of the body such as the abdomen, buttocks, and arms.

The ideal option for your breast reconstruction needs depends on various factors, such as the services available in your area. Breast reconstruction has evolved notably in the past few years but requires particular skill to achieve results. People in areas with underdeveloped medical facilities might have to travel further to access such resources.

Factors that Affect Your Preferred Reconstruction Method

Various factors determine the ideal reconstruction method for your needs. These can include elements such as the woman’s age, general health, previous surgery records, and the level of damage. Women who have undergone abdominal surgery may not be suitable for the flap reconstruction process.

You can choose to go for the reconstruction surgery while you go for the surgery process. Or, you can also schedule the reconstruction for a later date, such as when you have a busy schedule or several life obligations. Limiting the surgery t a single occasion is ideal for your recovery needs.

For instance, scheduling both procedures simultaneously will reduce the side effects of anesthesia and improve recovery times. However, immediate reconstruction is not always ideal, especially if your surgeon recommends against such an option.

If your doctor recommends radiation procedures or further tissue damage to the breast skin, then a delayed reconstruction might be ideal. Furthermore, you have the option of consulting with your doctor on the mold of your reconstructed breast.

Before you can opt for breast reconstruction, you should realize that it’s a process that involves different techniques. Choosing the right breast repair procedure depends on various factors such as your budget, doctor’s recommendations, and location. It’s also good to speak openly with your surgeon and doctor about any concerns about the process.

Dr. Scot Glasberg knows that the first step in deciding to undergo a cosmetic surgery procedure includes making sure that your surgeon is a board-certified plastic surgeon. You’re not sure if you need a breast lift or augmentation? The decision is completely up to you. It depends on what your goals are and how important they are to you. Some women want to have perkier breasts in magazines, while others prefer their natural look and do not care about having bigger breasts. If it has been bothering you for a long time, the best thing for you would be to book an appointment with one of our doctors at Dr. Glasberg, M.D.  We will discuss how to decide if you need a breast augmentation or breast lift.

Your breast size

Do you want to increase or decrease the overall size of your breasts? If so, then a breast lift may be more appropriate for you. This will reduce sagging and make them look fuller than they currently do. Breast augmentation would be better suited for someone who wants to maintain their current measurements but adds volume by getting a breast implant or using fillers like Juvederm.

Your age

Women over the age of 40 might need to have a breast lift more often than younger women. As we get older, gravity can take its toll on our breasts and cause them to sag a little bit as they lose their volume. Breast augmentation or lift could increase your self-confidence because you will be able to wear clothing without worrying about your breasts sagging.

Your weight

The heavier you are, the more likely it is that your breasts will sag. Women who have a lot of fatty tissue in their breasts may want to consider getting a breast lift or augmentation because they will be fuller and perkier after surgery. Breast augmentation might work for someone with smaller breasts but wants them to look bigger on her frame.

Your goals

Do you want to feel better about your breasts and have a boost in self-confidence when wearing clothing? If so, then it’s worth considering both options. A breast lift will reduce sagging, but breast augmentation can give you the size you’re looking for while maintaining some perkiness. Or maybe what motivates you more is that you don’t want to be self-conscious when walking around in a bikini. Breast augmentation might make more sense for this concern because they will look and feel fuller than what they do now.

Spring is here and before you know it summer will too! While you may have been trying to diet and exercise as part of your New Year’s resolution, your results may not be what you wanted. Regardless, Dr. Glasberg can perform procedures that can help you on your way to the summer body you are looking for.

Some of the procedures that will help you get you in shape for the summer include:

Liposuction, also known as liposculpting

Liposuction is one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures and can enhance your silhouette and restore a more slender appearance to your body. Dr. Glasberg is a liposuction specialist, located in Manhattan, and has years of experience with positive reviews from patients about the appearance and shapeliness of their results.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation can help you achieve your goals for your appearance and help you feel more comfortable in your skin. If you have always desired larger, fuller, or more even breasts, this procedure could be the right option for you. Dr. Scot Bradley Glasberg can help you by creating natural, beautiful results that reflect your desires for your appearance.

Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is the overdevelopment of male breasts. It can affect between 40 to 60 percent of men. The cause of gynecomastia can be the result of hormonal imbalance, obesity, certain drugs, or heredity, and can affect one or both breasts. If you are a good candidate, a male breast reduction can reshape the contours of your breasts post-surgery.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal uses pulsed laser energy to remove unwanted hair from nearly any area of the body while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. Common areas on which laser hair removal is performed are the chin, upper lip, chest, underarms, back, bikini line, and legs.

Spider Vein Removal

Spider veins are small, thin blood vessels visible beneath the skin. They appear most commonly on the face and legs and may look like a series of lines, tree branches, or spider webs. There are several types of laser treatment available and spider veins can be treated over the course of several treatment sessions.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are FDA-approved and safe for use by most patients. Many of the fillers are made from substances found naturally in the body and are used to restore volume and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Dr. Glasberg offers patients several different dermal filler options in order to provide the best possible results for their individual needs.

BOTOXCosmetic

Properly placed injections of BOTOX Cosmetic can block nerve impulses sent to muscles, weakening them to the point where they cannot contract, and temporarily eliminating moderately severe furrows and lines.

Breast reduction surgery can be life-changing for many women and men in NYC who have suffered from pain, discomfort, and other limitations due to a large amount of breast tissue. Many women may experience neck pain, back pain, or difficulty exercising due to large breasts, or they may find it difficult to find well-fitting clothing. A breast reduction procedure can make a dramatic difference, reducing or eliminating pain and boosting confidence and ease of movement.

In order to experience the best results and a smooth recuperation after a breast reduction, there are some recovery tips to keep in mind. Of course, Dr. Glasberg will provide you with detailed instructions and advice for your own recovery, but these are a few things that you can keep in mind to help you enjoy a successful outcome.

Choose the Right Bra

Immediately following your breast reduction procedure, your breasts will likely be bandaged or wrapped in gauze, and you may receive a special compression garment. Your surgeon will direct you as to how long to keep on the bandages and use any specialized items. Make sure to keep your compression garment in place for as long as your surgeon suggests in order to protect your breasts and smooth your recovery.

After this initial recovery period, you can switch to wearing bras. Here, a supportive, soft-cup bra, like a sports bra, maybe the best choice. This can help to hold the breasts in place, minimizing bruising and swelling. In most cases, you should also wear the bra while sleeping. Take care to avoid underwire bras, however, as they may inflame and irritate the incision area.

Take Care When Reclining

After your breast reduction, you may experience swelling that persists for several months. In fact, you may not immediately see the full results of your procedure due to this form of swelling. The swelling is a natural part of your recovery, and you cannot fully eliminate it. However, by keeping your chest elevated when sitting and sleeping, you may help to minimize the swelling. Placing pillows under your torso, rather than sleeping flat on your back or side, may help reduce swelling.

Get the Support You Need

When you first come home after a breast reduction procedure, don’t hesitate to ask your friends or family members for help. It is important to get rest after a surgical procedure to allow your body to heal. The first 72 hours after your surgery are particularly important, and a supportive person can help you to take your medication and deal with other daily living activities, such as caring for young children, cooking food, or ensuring that you take your medication on schedule.

Relieve Pain and Discomfort

Every person has a different experience after breast reduction surgery. While many women experience only mild discomfort, others may have more pain, especially in the period immediately following the procedure. Your surgeon will direct you to use over-the-counter or prescription pain relievers if needed. Take your medications as directed and prescribed, rather than waiting for the pain to become overwhelming, in order to help ease your recovery process. If you are prescribed other medication, such as antibiotics, take the full course as prescribed for the best possible results.

Stay Hydrated

Have a glass or bottle of water on hand with you after your surgery. Drinking plenty of water is always important for your health, but it can be especially important after surgery. Hydration helps your body clear anesthesia, avoid fluid retention, reduce swelling, and support healing.

Get Back to Work Successfully

Keep your limitations in mind in order to enjoy a successful recovery period. For example, it may be advised to take sponge baths for a period after your surgery and to avoid washing your hair by lifting your hands above your head. Follow these instructions and wait until cleared by your surgeon to take traditional showers. Your hairdresser may be able to perform hair-washing appointments as well.

You can expect to return to work around one to two weeks after your procedure, assuming your job does not include heavy, intense physical activity. Wait to resume your exercise routine and get the rest you need, although simple activities like walking around can help to boost your recovery.

The recovery period after breast reduction comes with some lifestyle changes, but the long-term results of this procedure provide significant improvement in the quality of life for many women and men in New York City. A breast reconstruction, after a mastectomy, can improve the quality of your life as well as your self-image. Unfortunately not all breast cancer patients are aware of the options available to them when it comes to breast reconstruction surgery.

If you have had a mastectomy, either due to breast cancer or a congenital or developmental abnormality, you have several options on how your breasts can be reconstructed. The overall intention of breast reconstruction is to create a breast and nipple that closely resembles your natural breast in shape, size, and position. If you are healthy and age is not a factor, you may be a good candidate for breast reconstruction. However, if you have health problems such as obesity, high blood pressure, or you are a smoker, you may be advised to wait to have your breast reconstructed. It’s best to discuss your medical condition with Dr. Glasberg so he can help with a solution.

What are the types of breast reconstruction?

You have several options for the reconstruction of your breast and the method that is used will depend on the amount of tissue on your chest wall to cover or hold a breast implant.

Implant/tissue-expansion breast reconstruction

This method of breast reconstruction involves inserting a breast implant in the chest wall after the skin has been stretched by a balloon expander that has been placed beneath the skin and chest muscle. Over time, your skin will create a pocket for the implant. The final step is to create a nipple and areola.

Autologous-tissue breast reconstruction

If there is not enough tissue remaining after the mastectomy to expand, this method uses skin, fat, and muscle from other parts of your body to create a flap that is attached to the chest. Implants may or may not be used during this procedure but the nipple and areola are constructed in a separate procedure.

Your breast reconstruction can be immediately after your mastectomy or after your mastectomy incisions have healed and you have completed your breast cancer therapy. You may decide that your reconstruction should include surgery on your other breast so they will both match in size and shape.

The Importance Of Choosing A Skilled, Experienced Surgeon

Breast reconstruction after a mastectomy requires the skill and compassion of a board-certified plastic surgeon. Beautiful woman with winter background

With the holidays quickly approaching and all the time you spend making sure that it goes well,   Dr. Scot Glasberg, board-certified plastic surgeon, wants you to take time to think of yourself and your needs. While it’s the busiest time of the year for most people, with long holiday vacations and time off from work, it is also one of the best times to have a surgical or non-surgical plastic surgery procedure. The extended vacation time, especially during the cooler winter weather, will mean you will spend more time indoors, giving you time to focus on the healing you need during your recovery period. Another side benefit is that while you stay indoors you will avoid direct contact with the sun, avoiding the damage that UVA and UVB rays can cause to incision sites.

Some of the most common plastic surgery procedures that Dr. Glasberg performs during the winter season include:

Breast Cancer Awareness Month Pink Ribbon

Dr. Scot Glasberg wants to remind all women that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which gives us an opportunity to recognize the importance of detecting breast cancer early. It is an annual campaign that is intended to educate men and women about early screening, testing and more.

Other than some forms of skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. About 1 out of 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. It’s not as common in men but less than 1% of men have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Symptoms of breast cancer can vary but the most common symptoms can include:

If found early, most women can beat breast cancer. Screenings, such as a mammogram, ultrasound of the breast, or MRI can help detect breast cancer early – when it’s easier to treat.

For those women who have had surgery as part of their treatment for breast cancer, some may choose to have reconstructive breast surgery to restore and rebuild the shape and look of their breasts. There are several different types of breast reconstruction procedures available yet the timing of the procedure will depend on a few factors, such as a physical examination by Dr. Glasberg, the risk factors that may be involved, and the post-cancer surgery treatments you may still need to undergo.

There are many types of breast reconstruction procedures but two of the most common procedures available include either using breast implants, silicone or saline-based or using your body tissue, known as a tissue flap procedure. Sometimes a combination of a breast implant and a tissue flap procedure are used to reconstruct your breast.

For women who have had a more conservative breast cancer surgery, such as a lumpectomy or partial mastectomy, procedures such as fat grafting or a smaller breast implant may be performed to reconstruct the breast.

In addition to your breast reconstruction, Dr. Glasberg can add a nipple, change the shape and size of the breast that is being reconstructed, and adjust the shape of your opposite breast to match the symmetry of your reconstructed breast.

While these options are available to you post-cancer surgery, please use this Breast Cancer Awareness Month to schedule your mammogram and a follow-up breast examination so that if it is cancer, your outcome will be a positive one.

What you should know about breast implants

Breast augmentation is the most popular kind of plastic surgery procedure across the United States. Many women want to change the size, shape or appearance of their breasts in order to enhance their look, improve the fit of clothes or boost their confidence whether on the beach or in more intimate situations. Every year, around 280,000 women choose to have plastic surgery for breast enlargement, making use of silicone or saline implants. This is not to mention the approximately 106,000 breast cancer patients who have reconstructive plastic surgery after mastectomy every year; in many cases, these women also opt for breast implants.

This means that in the past 20 years, the popularity of breast augmentation has more than doubled. It may seem that having your ideal body is more achievable than ever and safer than in the past, due to advances in medical technology. If you’re thinking about breast implants, there are some facts that you can keep in mind to help you make a decision and choose the right doctor and solution for you.

Why do you want breast implants?

Every woman is unique, with individual motivations behind her desire for larger breasts. There are a number of reasons why women consider breast implants, including:

Studies have shown that women who opt for breast augmentation surgery typically feel higher self-esteem, more body confidence, and greater libido after the procedure because they feel better about the appearance of their bodies.

When considering breast implant surgery, it makes sense to think about what you want to get out of the procedure and to have some achievable goals in mind. Breast implants cannot totally reshape the body, but a skilled plastic surgeon can help you to achieve a beautiful, natural appearance that can boost your comfort in your own skin.

What are the types of breast implants?

There are two major types of breast implants that women choose when opting for breast augmentation: saline implants and silicone gel-filled implants.

Saline implants are filled with a sterile saline solution, similar to salt water. This solution is contained within a silicone shell. Each implant is filled with different amounts of saline solution in order to produce differences in size, feel and shape. Saline implants first became popular in the 1990s after concerns about early silicone implants leaking into the body and causing health problems. Unlike silicone, if the saline solution leaks into the body, it will be naturally absorbed and expelled with no ill effects.

Silicone gel-filled implants are a modern silicone option approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2006. They are filled with silicone gel. In 1962, silicone implants were first introduced and they became very popular by the 1980s. In 1992, after reports of health concerns and lawsuits against the manufacturers of leaking breast implants, these earlier silicone options were taken off the market. Today’s silicone implants were approved in 2006 and have become widely used in the ensuing 13 years.

Why choose one type of implant over another?

Women have great options for breast augmentation, but there are a number of reasons why they might prefer one type of implant over another. All current research indicates that there is no significant difference in the safety of saline and silicone gel implants for women’s long-term health. Still, women seeking breast augmentation can consider their choices.

Risk of Rupture

Ruptured implants are a possibility with any type of breast implants. In some cases, women’s implants can rupture during a fall, severe accident or another type of strong pressure on the breast. However, what happens after a rupture can vary based on whether you’ve chosen silicone or saline implants. It is usually obvious if a saline implant ruptures; the breast will change size and shape as the fluid leaks. Since saline implants contain essentially sterile saltwater, this will be harmlessly expelled by the body in the ensuing days.

On the other hand, it is more difficult to spot a ruptured silicone gel-filled implant. In addition, the human body cannot absorb silicone, so the leaked material stays inside the body and can spread outside the breast, including the lymph nodes. Studies have not found an increased risk of disease associated with ruptured silicone implants, but you should probably have the ruptured implant and loose silicone removed in this case.

In addition, the FDA recommends that women with silicone gel implants get an MRI

three years after surgery and every two years after to detect the possibility of rupture. You may wish to investigate whether these scans will be covered by your insurance.

Look and Feel

With all the extra testing, why do women choose silicone implants? Aside from the fact that their safety is supported by clinical research, the look and feel are often considered superior to saline. The heft of silicone gel implants and their unique texture allows them to feel, move and look more like your natural breasts. They can be almost undetectable in the hands of a skilled surgeon.

The Choice is Yours

People have many different aesthetic preferences, and breast augmentation can help them achieve their goals for their appearance and body. There is one thing to keep in mind: choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon for the look you want to achieve. While other types of doctors may offer cosmetic breast procedures, only board-certified plastic surgeons have gone through a plastic surgery residency and are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery that they have gone through extensive training, detailed education and demanding examinations.

Dr. Scot Glasberg is an experienced board-certified NYC plastic surgeon who has successfully performed breast augmentations for thousands of satisfied patients. When you come in for a consultation with Dr. Glasberg, he can recommend specific surgical options or implant sizes based on the outcome that you want to achieve, based on your unique desires, medical history and vision for the outcome.
